The Himalayan salt lamp!  It is made from pieces of Himalayan salt crystals, usually from India.  These lamps bring an array of health and environmental benefits to our life.  They are an immediate mood enhancer; which is the most important fact to me!  Studies suggest that negative ions like those emitted from the Himalayan salt lamp can accelerate blood flow and circulation.  It is believed to filter dust, mildew, mold and pet dander from indoor air. The crystal made from chunks of salt combines with the light source inside the lamp to produce negative ions which bring positive effects on indoor air.  It also balances electronic radiation from TVs, computers and cell phones.  It enhances a healthy sleep cycle, reduces stress and promotes relaxation.

The Himalayan salt lamps are really helpful in an office space too!  A lot of my corporate clients complain about getting headaches that could be caused from the lighting system in their office space especially if there are no windows or fresh, outside air coming in.  I always suggest trying a salt lamp In their office space and even trying to keep the lights off during some points of the day.

I actually have five Himalayan salt lamps in my house and one in each of mine and my husband’s office.  I started with one and my obsession grew.  In the gloomy winters in Toronto the crystal’s light really helps my whole family feel happier.  I have one really big one in my kitchen that always stays on day and night.  When I was doing night feedings for my kids it was the perfect night light when I needed to see what I was doing with their bottles, and at the same time it kept the babies calm and relaxed in my arms.  I have one in each of the kids’ bedrooms.  We use them as night lights.  When they were babies, right after their bath and while doing their night time routine the crystal light was all we needed.  Now that they are four and six, for some reason, my kids tell me they are sometimes scared at night so we talk about the positive energy light that keeps them safe.
